1. Take a packed lunch

A working couple and their two kids can spend anywhere up to $12,000 a year on buying lunches. Taking something from home would equate closer to $4,000 a year, that’s a saving of up to $8,000, WOW!

2. Pay all bills on time

For every late bill there is usually a late payment fee. These fees quickly add up and can end up costing hundreds over the course of a year.

3. Pay your credit card in full

Paying the minimum payment on your credit card not only increases your debt, it also increases the amount you pay in interest. If your credit card debt is out of control, then Dave recommends visiting a finance broker to re-finance your loans to get them back into order.

4. Shop Around

Taking out an insurance premium should be just like buying a new home theatre system. Shop around, compare apples with apples and get the best deal on the best product.

A few ways of saving on a premium is:

  • To opt for a higher excess
  • Pay the premium in a full lump payment
  • Exclude optional extras such as car hire and windscreen replacement
